नई दिल्ली: देश में 70 साल बाद चीते (Cheetah) वापस आ गए हैं. नामीबिया (Namibia) से 8 चीतों - जिनमें से पांच मादा हैं और तीन नर- को विशेष विमान के जरिए भारत लाया गया.

इसमें से तीन को शनिवार, 17 सितंबर को पीएम मोदी ने मध्य प्रदेश (Madhya Pradesh) के कुनो नेशनल पार्क (Kuno National Park) में खुला छोड़ा. आइए जानते हैं कि केंद्र सरकार के जिस 'प्रोजेक्ट चीता' के तहत इन 8 अफ्रीकी चीतों को भारत लाया गया है, वह क्या है और चीतों को भारत लाने के पूरे प्रोजेक्ट की लागत (Project Cheetah cost) कितनी है?

🐆 Project Cheetah: प्रोजेक्ट चीता क्या है?
भारत में विलुप्त हो चुके चीतों को फिर से बसाने के लिए एक पायलट प्रोग्राम के रूप में 'प्रोजेक्ट चीता' को भारत के सुप्रीम कोर्ट द्वारा जनवरी 2020 में अप्रूवल/सहमति मिली थी. हालांकि चीता को वापस लाने का कॉन्सेप्ट पहली बार 2009 में भारतीय संरक्षणवादियों और चीता कंजर्वेशन फंड (CCF) ने रखा था. CCF एक गैर-लाभकारी संगठन/NGO है, जिसका मुख्यालय नामीबिया में है, और यह बिग कैट्स (शेर, बाघ, तेंदुआ, चीता, स्नो लेपर्ड, जैगुआर) को बचाने और उनके पुनर्वास की दिशा में काम करता है.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट की सहमति के बाद जुलाई 2020 में, भारत और नामीबिया ने एक समझौता ज्ञापन (MOU) पर हस्ताक्षर किए, जिसमें नामीबिया सरकार ने 'प्रोजेक्ट चीता' को शुरू करने के लिए आठ चीतों को भारत भेजने पर सहमति व्यक्त की. यह पहली बार है जब किसी जंगली दक्षिणी अफ्रीकी चीता को भारत में या दुनिया में कहीं भी पुनर्वासित किया गया.

🐆 Project Cheetah: 8 चीतों को भारत लाने में कितना खर्च हुआ?
नामीबिया से भारत आने के बीच इन 8 चीतों ने 8,000 किमी का हवाई सफर बोइंग 747 में तय किया है. बिजनेस स्टैंडर्ड की रिपोर्ट के अनुसार पर्यावरण, वन और जलवायु परिवर्तन मंत्रालय के अधिकारियों ने कहा कि प्रोजेक्ट चीता के लिए कुल 96 करोड़ रुपये आवंटित किए गए हैं. इस प्रोजेक्ट का समर्थन करने के लिए, इंडियन ऑयल ने अतिरिक्त 50 करोड़ रुपये दिए हैं.

चीता कंजर्वेशन फंड (CCF) के अनुसार कुनो नेशनल पार्क में आवश्यक सुविधाओं की वयवस्था की गयी, कर्मचारियों को ट्रेनिंग दी गयी है और बड़े शिकारी जानवरों को इनके दायरे से हटा दिया गया है.
हालांकि कुनो नेशनल पार्क पहले से ही शेरों और तेंदुओं का घर है. वन्यजीव विशेषज्ञों ने शेरों और तेंदुओं जैसे बिग कैट्स की मौजूदा प्रजातियों के साथ बाहर से लाए गए चीतों के सह-अस्तित्व पर चिंता व्यक्त की है.
